Seven of Hearts

2009 Pinot Noir Coupe's Cuvee Dessert Wine Willamette Valley

($21) Bright red.  Perfumed bouquet evokes candied red berries, cherry pie and orange marmalade, with musky herb and spice notes adding complexity.  Sweet and broad, with gently viscous red fruit preserve flavors.  Wild stuff, offering an appealing blend of richness and energy; weighty but not thick.  The sweet finish clings with very good sappy intensity.  This would be superb with Oregon's Rogue Creamery Smokey Blue cheese, which is a must-try, by the way.

2009 Pinot Noir Crawford Beck Vineyard Eola-Amity Hills

($35) Vivid red.  Aromas of blackberry, cola, spicecake and fresh rose, with a hint of underbrush in the background.  Smooth, fleshy and sweet, with earthy dark berry and floral pastille flavors and a touch of mocha.  Open-knit and drinking surprisingly well, but there's a good spine of acidity here that bodes well for at least mid-term aging.

2009 Pinot Noir Special Reserve Willamette Valley

($42) Deep red.  Heady bouquet of raspberry and cherry-cola, with Asian spice and floral nuances becoming stronger with air.  Silky and seamless on the palate, offering sweet red and dark berry flavors and a touch of gingerbread.  Fine-grained tannins come on late and add shape to the long, floral, vanilla-accented finish.

Luminous Hills

2009 Pinot Noir Estate Grown Yamhill-Carlton District

($28) Medium red.  Aromas of black raspberry, spicecake and rose, plus a hint of star anise.  Juicy and sharply focused, offering red and dark berry flavors and a late note of bitter blood orange.  Graceful and precise on the spicy finish, which lingers with very good tenacity.  I like this wine's nervy character.

2009 Pinot Noir Lux Estate Grown Yamhill-Carlton District

($35) Vivid ruby-red.  Powerful aromas of blackberry, cherry compote, anise and dried rose, with a sexy vanilla quality and a hint of smokiness.  Pliant dark berry flavors offer a suave blend of depth and vivacity.  Picks up spiciness with air and finishes on a juicy dark fruit note, with very good persistence.

90

2009 Pinot Noir Astra Estate Grown Yamhill-Carlton District

($35) Bright ruby-red.  Highly expressive bouquet of raspberry, cherry-cola, Asian spices, dried flowers and woodsmoke.  Suave, sweet and penetrating, with good depth to its spicy red and dark berry flavors.  Fine-grained tannins add shape and grip to the clinging finish.
